Almond Cinnamon Frappe!

Yeah baby! I’ve found a new favorite snack, and it’s a healthy one! (Be warned… Health goes out the window on my next post, a fried pie recipe).

I like the idea of smoothies as an occasional meal replacement, but too heavy on the fruit and I feel jittery, even when I add greens. I need protein. Recently, I ran across this recipe for Almond Cinnamon Frappe on Martha Stewart’s beautiful and very usable website. I especially like the videos–where I found this particular frothy delicious treat.

Shira Bocar hosts the Eat Clean segment on the website, and I immediately knew I needed to make this. I mean… it has almond butter!! One of my very favorite foods!  Problem, though, I’ve never found commercially made Almond Milk without stabilizers. Not a problem! Shira also shows how to make your own almond milk, and guess what?? It’s insanely easy.

This is all there is to it:


 HOMEMADE ALMOND MILK

  • 1 cup whole raw almonds
  • 4 cups water, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    Place almonds in a blender. Bring 1 cup water to a boil; pour over almonds. Let stand 30 minutes. Add remaining 3 cups water and vanilla; blend until frothy. Pour through a fine sieve into a bowl and discard solids.

Almond milk can be stored in refrigerator up to 5 days. Shake before serving.


Piece of cake! Made my milk, and then made the Frappe. Here’s how:


ALMOND CINNAMON FRAPPE

  • 2 tablespoons Homemade Almond Butter (I didn’t make my own almond butter, but I have!)
  • 1 cup Homemade Almond Milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey (I used raw honey)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling
  • Ice, for serving

Ab1That’s it! Just four ingredients. Place all (except ice) in a blender and blend until frothy. That cinnamon kick is especially awesome.

Fill a glass with ice, add frappe, and sprinkle with more cinnamon if you like.

I drank one of these every day this week before work, and Friday, didn’t even eat the lunch I packed because this totally filled me up. My new favorite beverage!

Oh! And check this out. I’ve had a new friend hanging out with me and my Meyer Lemon tree. How cool is she?? I could watch this Bumble Bee all day.
